Mixed Media on Canvas/Framed 16 X 20 in. “Conceived before the pandemic and completed in 2025. ‘Constantina’ bridges two moments in time. The work draws on Byzantine portraiture, echoing the sanctified glow of Orthodox icons. It honors the artist’s grandfathers, godmother’s daughter, and Greek and Romanian heritage, nodding to Emperor Constantine’s legacy in Christian history. Cracked oil strata preserve time’s passage, while stylized eyes emerge from darkness, keeping silent vigil."
‘Maeve in the Corridor’ is a haunting meditation on memory, inheritance and the unspoken burdens carried by women across generations. Set within a narrow architectural enclosure (corridor and threshold) the composition evokes confinement and transition. Maeve, a spectral figure inspired by the artist’s maternal grandmother, Maria. Her gaze hovers between resignation and resilience. The palette recalls communist Romania, alluding to external narratives of control. In her case, forced marriage."
